A Preparation for Thesis (Masters Degree) and Dissertation (Doctorate Degree)

This course will provide the learner/student/minister with knowledge to prepare a Thesis or Dissertation into an acceptable format by providing rules and regulations governing the mechanics and laws of its production.  The Thesis and dissertations will become a permanent C.E.U. document of the Master's and Doctorate Candidate's upon graduation.  The Thesis or dissertation will be due and should be submitted to the academy on or before the end of the year of desired graduation.

The Course Comprehensive Thesis and Dissertation Writing/Parts I, II, and III has been designed to assist the learner/student/minister to develop a thesis or dissertation that will be submitted to the academy in an acceptable manner prior to graduation.

Definition and Purpose

Thesis: A thesis is a requirement of a graduate level course or a master's degree.  It is a dissertation embodying results of original research substantiating a specific view written by a candidate for an academic (master's) degree.  A thesis will consist of a final presentation of a previous protracted study in a specific field (i.e. theological study), and is considered a formal and lengthy research paper of such.  It is written in partial fulfillment of the requirement for a master's degree sought.

Dissertation: A dissertation is one of the requirements for a doctorate degree.  It is an extended written treatment of a  subject one submitted for a doctorate with apologetic worded declaration and individual compilation of 30 thousand words or more on a specific subject resulting in the doctorate   degree   one is seeking.  It is a formal and lengthy disclosure or treatise {a formal systematic article or book on some subject discussion, facts, evidence, narrative or principles} on some subject written as a partial fulfillment of requirements for the degree of doctor.

Note:   Each kind of research paper must include references giving full publication data for works cited in the text, and each is to be submitted as finished professionally bound copy rather than as a manuscript prepared for typesetting.

Guidelines for integrating your major emphasis (Christian Counseling) contents into your thesis/dissertation:

  1. The individual's APS report scores, e.g., M/P/Gc
  2. Description (physical) of the individual and the reason he or she came to you for counseling.
  3. Information regarding referrals.  Did you refer them, for example, to a physician for a physical examination?  To a psychiatrist for prescribed medication?  To a minister of a local church so they could receive a visitation and be encouraged to attend?
  4. The number of sessions you had with this individual, what you discussed during these sessions and what you accomplished, if anything.
  1. The counselee's history outlining major events, which may have an impact on the individual who is counseled/helped.
  2. A well-developed outline of your work with each individual.  This outline should include an honest self-evaluation.  For example, where do you feel you were deficient and where did you succeed?  Your thesis should be comprehensive and honest.  The purpose for the thesis is to help you identify your strengths and weaknesses and to assist in the development of your counseling skills.
